The Secret to Leftovers That Taste Better The Next Day

Hint: it’s not just reheating

Some dishes taste even better the day after — especially Asian comfort foods. The flavours deepen, the sauces thicken, and honestly, it feels like a new meal. The secret is how you store them.

I portion leftovers immediately into stainless steel containers or vacuum-sealed bags (so no fridge smell creeps in). My family favourites? Chinese braised pork, Japanese gyudon beef bowls, and Korean kimchi jjigae.

Stored properly, they reheat beautifully and taste like they just came out of the pot.

The key is reheating gently — steam your rice dishes, simmer soups slowly, and if you’re microwaving, add a splash of water to keep things moist. Suddenly, “leftovers” sound less boring and more like a second dinner win!
